The FSQA Documentation Specialist is responsible for supporting corporate compliance with food safety regulations and standards. This position is responsible for managing the development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of various Quality and Food Safety document management systems including, but not limited to, document control, specification management, data collection and statistical process control using existing systems or proposing new systems to the business; works with rest of FSQA department both in-plant and corporate to integrate and standardize the use of the various quality data systems platforms to promote their uniformity and optimization within the bakeries. May serve as the facilitator between Corporate FSQA and other departments to ensure that quality systems are relevant and adequate to their needs.
  • Conduct postproduction reviews of production data after the first production run and after 10 weeks of production. Begin process for routine production review of weights compared to specs for existing items, prioritizing based on volume produced.
  • Utilize TraceGains software for supplier approval document verification and monitoring of Café Valley raw material suppliers. Update supplier scorecards based on compliance with documentation requirements and feedback from purchasing and warehouse on shipment timeliness, defects, and COAs.
  • Traceability and Recall Program: support the FSQA team with the implementation of a robust traceability and recall program to quickly respond to any food safety issues or recalls.
  • Quality systems label content development backup: Must be able to utilize ESHA Genesis to understand and manipulate nutritional facts panels, ingredient statements, allergen statements, precautionary allergen labeling, net weights, and any labeling claims. Knowledge of Canadian and Mexican labeling regulations is a plus.
  • Backup for the label review and approval process for new products and label updates.
  • Assist in updating product specifications as assigned.
  • Assist with the maintenance of various certifications, including Kosher, RSPO, Rainforest Alliance, etc.
  • Food Safety Quality Management Systems: Assist in managing and enhancing the company's quality systems to meet or exceed industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in Internal Audits as assigned in preparation for BRCGS Audit.
  • Meeting customer expectations by organizing quality system documentation: Fulfilling requests for customer-required documentation about food safety, product complaints, and quality systems.
  • Assist the FSQA team with other various responsibilities, such as, but not limited to, food safety audits, mock recalls, HACCP team participation, and new finished product projects.
  • Assist with shelf life studies- including but not limited to setting up sensory panels, compiling data from in-house sensory and external laboratory, and generating reports on the results.
  • Assist with other temporary projects that may arise.
  • The candidate ideally would possess a Bachelor's or Associate’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Experience (typically 2+ years) in food safety and quality assurance.
  • In-depth knowledge of food safety regulations, quality control methodologies, and industry best practices.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills.
  • Certifications such as PCQI or similar are advantageous and required if in the position.

Qualifications Desired

  • Experience with document control systems and analysis in a food manufacturing environment, Red Zone SPC, Tableau custom reports, and TraceGrains.
  • Progressive increase in quality assurance responsibility in batter and laminated products in a food manufacturing environment.
  • Extensive knowledge in computer systems, Excel, macros, pivots, Access, and applications.
  • Extensive knowledge in regulatory, food safety, microbiology/chemistry of food products.
